Disabled Golf International Report

England won the first Disabled International Golf tournament at Slaley Hall after a nail biting finish 12.5 to Scotland’s 11.5. The tournament took place over 3 days in Ryder Cup format with the singles on the final day drawing 6 all.
Stan Bembenek says “I was up against Jim Davison (not the comedian) 22 handicap whilst mine was 27. However taking in the 3/4 handicap system I only received 4 shots instead of the normal 5.
The wind and drizzle were relentless but this was countered by the enthusiasm of the players who were amputees, blind, M.S. and Cerebral Palsy.
We all had a fantastic time, in spite of the weather, the Slaley Hall team were amazing and provided carers to support both teams.
I have never played in a singles tournament before and found it exhilarating knowing everything is down to you, I was finally beaten on the 17th hole. I did however get told after the match that l had been voted the best individual shot of the match.
Graeme Robertson (non playing England Captain) congratulated everyone on our win and looks forward to the return match next year.”
Well done Stan a tremendous achievement.
